Subsurface Reflections LLC was established to provide the latest technology practices to industries concerned with identifying and protecting infrastructure within the subsurface.
Through identifying and mapping of underground infrastructure, we are able to bring you the answers you need in managing and reporting your subsurface infrastructure. Along with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic Investigations, we also offer assistance in gathering historical information, locating and mapping underground utilities, installation of tracer wire as well as sales, service and set up of Cable Locate Management Systems for private utility networking. We also offer utility marking and detection supplies such as marking paint, marker posts, underground identification tape and tracer wire.
The owner of Subsurface Reflections LLC, Michelle Batten, has more than 25 years of experience working within the Environmental, Utility and Construction industries. Our dedication and commitment, along with our knowledge, experience and utilization of multiple technologies, allows us to deliver superior results on your project.

Michelle Batten started her career working in the Construction Industry in 1987. Some of her work included installation as well as removal of underground fuel tanks and piping systems for new and existing gas stations. Here, Michelle learned to operate heavy equipment such as loaders and backhoes, which gave her a perspective from the excavators' standpoint of the safety concerns with underground utilities.
Michelle then started working with underground utilities as a field technician locating underground utilities through the 'Miss Dig' system in Michigan. Here, she excelled to Quality Assurance Manager where she investigated and negotiated utility damages, as well as identified field locate errors and worked with technicians to improve the quality of their locate practices.
While doing this, she also completed her degree in Environmental Science with her studies including; Mapping/Drafting, Geology, Hydrology, Phase I and II ESA's, and BESA's. She also completed her Hazardous Materials and Hazmat First Responder Awareness and Operations Training.
Over the years, Michelle has performed numerous GPR investigations for; Environmental Underground Storage Tank (UST) identification and report compilation, Geophysical and Directional Drilling, Archaeological, Utility and Construction investigations throughout Michigan and the Midwestern States. She has also donated her services to several local schools and municipalities to assist in identifying lost artifacts such as time capsules and unmarked grave sites.
Michelle is a member of the Michigan Association of Environmental Professionals (MAEP). She also attends the Michigan Damage Prevention Association (DPA) meetings to stay current with the 'Miss Dig' regulations and concerns. As a hobby, Michelle also enjoys Metal Detecting and is a member of the Southwest Michigan Seek and Search Club (SWMSS).
